اسلامک انٹرنیشنل یونیورسٹی میں منعقدہ ایک سیمنار میں شرکاء نے سسٹین ایبل ڈویلپمنٹ گولز (ایس ڈی جیز) پر عمل کرنے کے لئے نوجوانوں کے بھر پور کردار پر زور دیا ہے۔ سیمنارا’’یس ڈی جیزمیں نوجوانوں کا کردار‘‘ برگدتنظیم نے آکسفیم ادارہ اور اسلامک انیٹر نیشنل یونیورسٹی کے تعاون سے گزشتہ روز منعقد کیا، جس میں طلبا ء اور اساتذہ کی کثیر تعداد نے شرکت کی ۔ سیمنار سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے کنٹر ی ڈائریکٹر آکسفیم محمد قز لباش نے کہا کہ سیمنار کا مقصد ایسے ایس ڈی جیز جو نوجوانوں سے متعلق ہے آگاہی پیدا کر نا ہے۔
انہوں نے کہا کہ پاکستان وہ ملک ہے جس میں ایس ڈی جیز کو اپنے قومی ایجنڈے میں شامل کیا ہے اور اس طرح ایس ڈی جیز کے عمل درآمد میں پارلیمنٹ کا کردار پیدا کیا گیا ہے ۔ اسلامک یونیورسٹی کے ڈاکٹر معصو م یاسین زئی نے کہا کہ تعلیمی اداروں میں نوجوانوں کو اس طرح کے قومی مقاصد سے آگاہ کرنا بہت ضروری ہے ۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ اس وقت ملک میں 56ملین سے زیادہ نوجوان ہیں، جنہیں ایک مثبت اور صحیح سمت کی ضرورت ہے ۔ برگد کی سربراہ صبیحہ شاہین نے کہا کہ پاکستان میں مثبت سرگرمیوں کے لئے نوجوانوں کے پاس کم مواقع ہیں۔ اس لئے انہوں نے ایس ڈی جیز سے آگاہ کر کے ایک مثبت سرگرمی اور راستہ دکھانے کی ضرورت ہے۔سیمنار سے دیگر مقررین ناصرہ حبیب، سعد گیلانی، شکیل احمد، عبدالروف کھٹانہ، نورعمران اور دیگر نے زور دیا کہ نوجوان صنفی امتیاز، روزگار کے مواقع، امن ، صاف پانی اور اس طرح کے دیگر ایس ڈی جیز حاصل کرنے کے لئے بھر پور کردار ادا کر سکتے ہیں ۔ سیمنار کے اختتام پر سندھ ڈویلپمینٹ سوسائٹی (ایس ڈی ایس) کے جاگرتا تھیٹر گروپ نے فقیر یاسین چن، پارس غفار ملک، عاشق علی و دیگر نے صنفی برابری کے لئے ایک ڈرامہ بھی پیش کیا۔
Moot calls for engaging youth in understanding SDGs
ISLAMABAD (ENN)The speakers at a seminar here on “Engaging Youth for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” collectively called for engaging youth, especially students, in a better understanding of the developments goals in Pakistan’s context and play a practical role in meeting these goals.
The objective of the seminars was to involve youth from higher education institutions in Pakistan with the SDGs through orientation and awareness. The seminars are focusing SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 6 (Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all), SDG 8 (Sustained, inclusive and sustainable growth), SDG 11(Safe, resilient and sustainable human settlements) and SDG16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). Country Director of Oxfam, Mohammed Qazilbash and Rector Islamic International University Dr Masoom Yasinzai were the keynote speakers.
The framework of SDGs provides an avenue where 17 goals and 169 targets which call for involving Pakistani youth with the SDGs.
Addressing the seminar Oxfam country director Qazilbash said youth should understand they are merely not the future of Pakistan but present as well. He said earlier Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) failed in meeting the challenges of development and that is why international community created SDGs to include those issues which were not incorporated in the MDGs. He said youth spaces are shrinking in Pakistan day by day mainly due to extremism and there is a dearth for appropriate platforms where youth can express themselves and realize their potential in economic, social and political/civic spheres.
Dr Yasinzai said Pakistan has around 56million youth and we have to put them on right track. He said through such interactions the students will be prepared to meet the required development needs accordingly and focus on market-based ideas and plans of meeting these goals to create better opportunities and to pay their role.
Sabiha Shaheen, Executive Director Bargad remarked that youth spaces are shrinking in Pakistan day by day and there is a dearth for appropriate platforms where youth can express themselves and realize their potential in economic, social and political and civic spheres. The framework of SDGs provides an avenue that can involve youth in development process. It calls for Pakistani youth to be an active part for achieving the SDGs, she added.
Saad Gillani of International Labour Organization, called for freedom, equality, security and dignity in employment sector. He said child labour; bonded labour, low wages, forced labour were still issues in Pakistan. He said creating jobs for youth was also a big challenge for Pakistan.
He proposed the incorporation of the decent work agenda in National Policies. Shakeel Ahmad, Assistant Country Director UNDP said urban-rural disparities were also a challenge for Pakistan to meet SDGs. He said according to estimates nearly 46 percent areas of Pakistan are now urban but official figures show only 28.6 percent. He said Pakistan was far behind in creating focus on this issue.
The seminar was part of a series of seminars Bargad and Oxfam plan to have such interactions in 12 universities and higher education institutions in different regions of Pakistan.
At the end of seminar the Jagerta theatre group of Sindh Development Society presented play on gender equality.
