SIALKOT (ENN) The fans of the Sialkot based renowned artist, painter and calligrapher Bashir Ahmed Kanwar Late, have established an art gallery at Sialkot on self-help basis, which have been named after Bashir Kanwar Art Gallery.
Director Gujranwala Arts Council Dr. Abdul Halim Khan formally had inaugurated and opened it for the visitors.

Sialkot based author and poet Ashfaq Niaz, who had 27 years long association with the Bashir Kanwar, has been appointed as the Chairman of this Bashir Kanwar Art Gallery Sialkot.
Ashfaq Niaz told that he was proud to be a companion of all the weathers of Bashir Kanwar, who served his life for the promotion of arts in the Sialkot as well.
He said that the Sialkot based fans of Bashir Kanwar have established this art gallery on self-help basis to promote the arts and keeping the unmatched precious arts work of late Bashir Kanwar.
He said that it was the first ever art gallery in Sialkot, as Sialkot gets its first ever arts gallery after decades long wait. He told that hundreds of the paintings, unique arts work and calligraphy works have been displayed at this art gallery, which has also been affiliated with the Gujranwala Arts Council.
Ashfaq Niaz sought governmental patronage for the art gallery, saying that the Sialkot District Council and Sialkot Municipal Corporation should come forward to patronize this gallery and encourage the local artists for the promotion of the arts in Sialkot region as well.
On August 15, 2017, the Sialkot based artist, painter and calligrapher Bashir Kanwar (76), an unsung national hero, had died here after the protracted illness in Sialkot. He had been a senior teacher of arts, painting and calligraphy in Sialkot.
Sialkot had lost this great artist, who had been an icon of painting and calligraphy, but he remained an unsung national hero, who also had life time struggle for the promotion of art and establishment of any governmental arts academy in Sialkot.
He was laid to rest in Sialkot here with his dreams and wishes to establish any arts academy at Sialkot backed by the government for the promotion of arts in Sialkot as well.
