SIALKOT (By Abid Mehdi) The rising trash heaps in Sialkot city’s almost all the congested residential, commercial and industrial areas were leaving the big question mark on the performance of Sialkot Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Sialkot Waste Management Company (SWMC), due to which the garbage were producing the ill-smell and suffocation besides, creating environmental pollution in Sialkot city.
Sialkot city’s business, social, religious and political circles have expressed grave concern over the critical condition and have urged officials of the SWMC and SMC to ensure the early lifting of the trash heaps from all parts with ensuring their early dumping at the suitable places in outskirts of city.
They also urged the officials concerned to ensure the early repairing of all the broken tractor trolleys as well. The Sialkot Municipal Corporation was the broken trolleys for lifting this garbage.
The concerned officials of SWMC said that the people in Sialkot city produce as many as 400 tons garbage daily.
Local Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Umer Dar, Usman Dar and Arif Ahmed Khawaja have also expressed grave concerns over the worst cleanliness situation in Sialkot city. They said that it was the prime obligation of the local bodies to provide better cleanliness facilities to the local people.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Mayor of Sialkot Municipal Corporation Ch. Bashir Ahmed said that the SMC has allocated Rs.170 million for the purchase of suitable land in outskirts of Sialkot city for establishing a trash and garbage dumping point there.
Deputy Mayor added that the Sialkot had been lacking any garbage dumping point for the last several decades, due to which the Corporation’s sanitation staff had also been facing a great ordeal in dumping Sialkot city’s garbage trash at any suitable land for this purpose.
