Islamabad (ENN) Army chief Major General Qamar Jawed Bajwa briefed the Senate Committee of the Whole House on national security during an extraordinary in-camera session here on Tuesday. The extra ordinary that continued for four hours was presided by Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani.
After four hours long session, Director General (DG) ISPR Asif Ghafoor told media that the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Major Gen Sahir Shamshad Mirza briefed the house on national security and the Army’s plan of action.
He said as the session was in-camera so would be inappropriate to share in details but a detailed press conference will be held in the next few days. Army chief briefed for one and the rest time was dedicated to the questions of the senators.
Former senate chairman Farooq H Naich said many confusions have come to an end after the session.
According to sources, the army chief added that trips to certain countries were an important aspect of military diplomacy and that the military was paying close attention to the geostrategic situation in the region.
Military leadership told lawmakers that since their inception in 2015, military courts had managed to decide 274 cases and had awarded 161 death sentences.
The in-camera briefing session by military leadership is being widely welcomed and appreciated by the senators and political leadership.
