Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessed its first ever killing of a working Journalist on Thursday night when un-identified armed bikers opened fire on Haroon Khan, who succumbed to his injuries while on the way to hospital.
According to reports Khan, the correspondent of daily Akhbar-e-Khyber was gunned down near his house around 8:20 pm by motor two bike assailants.
Local police told that after offering Isha (night) prayer, Haroon was returning to his home from the mosque when unknown people opened fire on him. He received multiple bullets after which he was rushed to the District Headquarter Hospital immediately where the doctors declared him dead.
While police suspects that motive behind murder can be the ongoing feud on land between Khan and his step brother but yet to be investigated. Police recovered seven to eight empty shells of rifle from the scene of the crime. Police told that assailants were on foot.
His funeral is being held after Friday prayer and he has left behind wife, son and daughter. He started journalism since last five years and was working with Mashriq
Journalists unions have announced protest demonstrations on Friday to condemn the killing of the slain journalists.
This is second killing of journalist in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in last four months as Bakhshish Ellahi of Haripur was murdered in June, 2017.
According to local journalist it’s the first ever incident of murder of a working journalist in Swabi district.
