Rahim Yar Khan (ENNS) Soon after assuming his office, the new Vice of Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering & Information Technology (KFUEIT) Rahim Yar Khan, Professor Dr. M. Suleman Tahir is making strategic efforts to put KFUEIT on a track of growth and development.
These efforts are bearing fruits as Government College University (GCU) Lahore and KFUEIT Rahim Yar Khan agree to collaborate in the field of Resource Sharing, Faculty & Students Exchange, Research and establishment of Incubation & Entrepreneurship Centers.
A Letter of Intent was signed by Vice Chancellors of both Universities.
This collaboration will help significantly the deprived region of South Punjab in general and Rahim Yar Khan in particular, with modern technical education.
Professor Tahir aims to further strengthen the level of collaboration and exchange with local and international universities of repute. The Vice Chancellor unveils his vision of making KFUEIT a top-ranking World-Class student centric University with 15,000 students in 2020.
He has started taking the faculty members, administrative staff and students onboard about his vision through frequent interactive sessions and visits.

Talking to heads of teaching departments and faculty members in last few days, the Vice Chancellor stressed the need of starting more engineering and technology degree programs serving the needs of this area and cope upcoming challenges. Enhancing the quality of education will remain core focus of all initiatives and every possible support will be provided in making this happen including but not limited to the establishment of state-of-the-art laboratories equipped enough to offer commercial testing services.
In this regard, the resources optimization is being done among academic and administrative departments to build synergies and save overhead expenses. Recent efforts of university leadership for release of governmental funds are bearing fruits very soon which are evident from the recent visit of Punjab Finance Minister to KFUEIT. The possible release of 2 billion of phase-2 and recurring grant funds will help complete project like in-campus hostels, Jamia mosque, employee’s residence, sports gymnasium, community center and technology park. The lofty vision demands for drastic reforms and optimization in way of work, which are being taken by the Vice Chancellor.
These reform not only will align the journey towards set vision but will help the achievement of sustainability very soon. Students and faculty members as biggest stakeholders are being given due attention. The Vice Chancellor has had multiple interactive sessions with departmental head, faculty members and students in last few days to share his vision with them and seek their feedback in achieving that vision.
On academic front, initiatives like hiring & development of talented faculty, establishment of new departments, new technology degree programs, start of weekend programs for corporate sector, establishment of new hi-tech & optimum utilization of current laboratories, research projects, entrepreneurship and commercialization are being taken.
Faculty training & development through expert lecture sessions and ORIC capacity building workshop on HEC-NRPU are among regular happenings at campus. The board of study meetings, academic council session, selection boards and syndicate meeting has been planned to execute in December 2019 and January 2020 to materialize the planned initiatives on fast track basis. Restructuring and resource optimization in administrative section has been identified as key action point.
The intent of Vice Chancellor is to get best out of current resources through merger of different verticals and placement of human resources in relevant domains for better performance and productivity. The establishment of student center with all services related to students available at one touch-point will be a strategic shift towards goal of being a student centric university. Similarly, through make shift arrangements of in-campus girls’ hostels, transport fleet management, better utilization of security personnel, horticulture beautification and campus cleaning initiative, the university is all set to take a new direction of growth and sustainability.
The establishment of a daycare center at campus in January 2020 will give peace of mind to employees for their kids and hence will improve their productivity. The support and guidance of provincial government and district administration is very much there in achieving these milestones. The Finance Minister of Punjab Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht, during his visit last week shown confidence is leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Dr Tahir and assured support in every possible way in removing barriers coming in way of making KFUEIT a real World-Class University.
In a meeting with deputy commission Ali Shahzad and political leadership of Rahim Yar Khan last week, the Vice Chancellor proposed to allocate the Abu Dhabi road for educational development and establishment of future schools, colleges and universities.
This whole area can then can be renamed as university town and be connected with main city through swift commuting tram system for green and environment friendly transport like in city of Peshawar.
