PESHAWAR (ENNS) Independent candidates and ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have grabbed five seats each in the first-ever elections for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial assembly from the merged tribal areas as per unofficial and unconfirmed results on Sunday morning.
The polling time in the erstwhile Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) concluded on Saturday at 5pm; however Voters who were present in the limits of polling stations were allowed to cast their right of vote.
According to the unofficial polling results of 15 constituencies out of 16, Jamat-e-Islami, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl gained two each seats each, ANP one; while PPP and PMLN could not get a single seat yet.
It is premature to confirm that independent candidates are affiliated or supported by PTM as some analysts believe that independents mostly were supported by PTM.
There were a total of 1,897 polling stations set up for the election. 282 candidates contended for the 16 general seats, including nominees for the ruling PTI, JUI-F, Awami National Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Peoples Party and Independents.
Two women candidates contesting on general seats could not make it as expected.
