PESHAWAR (ENN) The anti-terrorism court (ATC) hearing the brutal murder case of university student Mashal Khan announced its verdict here on Thursday, awarding life imprisonment to two accused and acquitting same number as well.
Arif Khan, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf e-councillor and Asad Katlang were awarded life in prison for their involvement in the Mashal Khan murder case.
Court released Izhar alias Joni and Sabir Mayar in the case.
On April 13, 2017, 23-year-old Mashal Khan was lynched and murdered by an angry mob at the Abdul Wali Khan University on the pretext of committing blasphemy. However, investigators found no proof of blasphemy and ruled that the murder was politically motivated.
In Pakistan, usually killers get away from such murders over the passage of time. As per law convicted can make appeal to High Court and then Supreme Court and most of the killers get released due to lack of evidences in the superior courts.
In Mashal case, 31 out of 61 had been convicted so far. Court had reserved its verdict on March 16 after recording statements of 46 witnesses.
