Sindh Health Minister seeks federal govt’s support as incidents of dog, snake bites on rise

KARACHI (ENN) Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho, while admitting that Sindh province is facing acute shortage of both Anti-Rabies (ARV) and Anti-Snake (ASV) due to non-availability in the market, has asked Ministry of National Health Regulation and Coordination, National Institute of  Health (NIH) Islamabad and  Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) for provision  of adequate quantity of the said medicine to treat the affected individuals at health facilities.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday she expressed her concern over increased number of dog bite cases adding that approximately 167381 number of cases had been reported from January 2018 to November 2018 across the province.

Dr Pechuho said that it was an alarming situation and needed immediate intervention by all the stakeholders. However Local Government Department, the Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners have been asked to launch a massive campaign for killing stray dogs.

She also assured that Sindh Health Department was also striving hard to make ARV and ASV in sufficient quantity across the province.
